The Most Gorgeous Hampshire Villages

Brockenhurst

The village of Brockenhurst is one of the largest settlements in the New Forest. It is located in the southern part of Hampshire on the main A337 Portsmouth Road some 45 miles (72 km) to the South West of London and 3 miles (4. 8 km) South East of Lymington.  It enjoys a central location within the New Forest National Park and has its own railway station served by both First Great Western and Southern train operating companies (83).

Location, This Is Hampshire (thisishampshire.co.uk). Around the time of the Great Fire, Brockenhurst was split by a branch of Stoney Lane that ran from the Godshill area to Beaulieu. This Stoney Lane later became Christchurch Road, and now forms the main road through Brockenhurst. A second significant road, Melstock Road, began at the junction with the Christchurch Road and ran East alongside Mill Brook until it intersected with the Lymington Road in Beaulieu. The population of Brockenhurst is approximately 10,000.

The village is a large one, being in the centre of the largest area of the New Forest at 77 square miles (200 km plus), by comparison it is 120 square miles (300 km plus) to the north and only 22 square miles (58 km plus) to the south. Brockenhurst has a population of around 15,000. It lies between the South Western and South Eastern areas of the New Forest National Park, in the northern foothills of Portsdown Hill.

Nestled in the heart of the New Forest National Park, Brockenhurst has grown from a tiny hamlet to a thriving village, with approximately 10,000 residents. Brockenhurst is also home to the New Forest Yacht Club, Royal Hampshire County Golf Club and the Hampshire Rugby Football Union. Its an area that has a long and dark history, which youll get to explore on the Portsmouth Ghost Walk. It’s home to some of the best cafés and restaurants on the south coast, offering a casual dining experience that combines relaxed surroundings with fabulous food.

Houghton

Houghton is a town in the heart of England, and a bit of nowhere to be honest. It's not on any transport routes apart from the train that links it with Norwich. The trains stop running at 5pm each day; until 7. 30pm on Tuesday evenings. Houghton has no tourist attractions other than the church, which is often packed with visitors to a very old font made from an elephant tusk. And Houghton does not appear anywhere in tourist guides to Norfolk, let alone Great Britain.

I love the place and it's my home town, yet that means almost nothing to fewer than 100 people in the world. Or it did until I visited a website called MailJet, which is located just over 30 miles. Olympic Dam   is one of the world's largest mine sites, and  one of the giant pillars of BHP Billiton. Grossing in at $14 billion a year, Olympic Dam   contributes about 25% to the company’s overall revenue.

Minstead

I’ve been following Michael Ford around the blogosphere for a long time. His writing resonates with me and his observations into the nature of content marketing are always spot-on. Some call him a digital marketer, but it’s more than that and what I love is that he is never afraid to tell you how it is. If you haven’t followed him yet, make sure to do so. The mine located in South Australia, employs roughly 5200 people, most from within the surrounding area.

Wickham

The history of Wickham is a neat example of early pioneering small town Australia. Originally a sleep out paddock owned by the Freeman family, it was sold to James Morill in 1902 and developed into allotments. In the incredibly well-researched book, The History of Tranmere and District by Ken Freeman we learn that at this time: "On the main road two hotels were operating, The Tranmere Hotel at the corner of Wickham Road and the Emu Creek Road and The Australian Arms on what is now Eyre Street.

". Wickham is an automated tester for websites, including a pluggable framework for creating your own tests. It can perform functional, load, regressions, compatibility, smoke and performance tests. These tests are written as Python class-based hooks in a hierarchical test suite using the Pillow library. Others can then run these functional tests inside of their own testing framework. As expected from such a large workplace there are an abundance of amenities on site as well as recreational facilities for employees and their families.
